Learning Objectives
Describe the purpose, key components, and interrelationships of the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
Analyze an income statement to access revenues, costs, and net profit, evaluating operational performance and profitability with architecture firm.
Explain the structure of a balance sheet—including assets, liabilities, and equity—to access financial stability, risk, and the impact on firm size and debt financing.
Differentiate between operating, investing, and financing cash flows, and apply basic financial ratios (profitability and liquidity) to assess cash flow management and overall financial health.

Rachel R. Gresham, AIA, MBA, WELL AP, CDT, is transforming how architects approach business and leadership. As Senior Director of Professional Practice Programs at AIA National, she develops programming and resources that equip architects with the financial, managerial, and strategic tools needed to thrive. With an MBA from Belmont University, her research explores the intersection of organizational structure and firm culture.
Passionate about fostering strong, inclusive workplaces, Rachel focuses on firm prosperity, workforce development, and leadership training. She ensures that architects at all career stages gain the business acumen necessary to navigate an evolving industry.
Previously, Rachel served on the AIA Middle Tennessee Board and co-founded its EDI Committee, leading efforts to drive data-informed change in the region. She also mentors future design and construction professionals through the ACE Mentor Program of Nashville, strengthening the industry’s talent pipeline.

Clare Levison is a Certified Public Accountant and owner of Inspired Responsibility, a consulting company dedicated to delivering continuing education via positive messages and meaningful content that inspires change. Prior to founding Inspired Responsibility, Levison spent more than twenty years in the aerospace and defense industry involved in all aspects of management, project, and financial accounting, as well as government compliance.
Levison currently serves as a member of the American Institute of CPAs Professional Ethics Executive Committee and chair of PEEC’s Artificial Intelligence task force. She is also a fervent financial literacy advocate and the author of “Frugal Isn’t Cheap: Spend Less, Save More, and Live Better.” She has appeared on major radio and television networks across the country discussing finance topics and has been a contributor to numerous publications including Family Circle, Fox Business, Glamour, Kiplinger’s, Redbook, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and U.S. News & World Report.
