This course will introduce learners to the fireplace category and provide an overview of fireplace fuel types, styles, technology and safety features and how to apply these components to match the right fireplace to the right home-type.
Learning Objectives
Review the various types of fireplaces and hearth systems on the market and which fuel types work best in regard to client type, home type, and project end-goals.
Discuss fireplace safety systems and technology that are designed to prevent injuries to end-users including mesh safety barriers, safety glass, heat management technology, direct venting, oxygen depletion sensors, and automatic shut-offs.
Look at the indoor and outdoor environmental impact of wood, gas, and electric fireplaces and discuss which types of fireplaces are allowed in green-building programs including LEED, The Well Building Standard, Passive House, and Energy Star-rated homes.
Examine fireplace design trends in regards to aesthetics, performance and consumer-demand and how these factor into creating strategic gathering and wellness spaces in the home.
