AIA 2030 Signatories: Secrets to success for larger firms
The AIA 2030 Commitment is a voluntary program dedicated to helping firms transform their practice to meet the urgent need for carbon elimination in the built environment. This program is the first to truly address portfolio-wide performance and support firms to holistically evolve their culture, systems, and processes to align with zero carbon goals. Instead of resting on the laurels of some exemplary projects, 2030 firms track their entire portfolio of work and commit to continuous improvement, reducing their carbon and energy footprints over time, ideally to hit the targets originally defined by the nonprofit Architecture 2030.
While many firms have not yet hit the targets with their entire portfolios, the proof of progress is in the numbers. Overall, participating firms achieved a 49% pEUI reduction across their portfolios last year. This is an unprecedented achievement. In the 2019 report, “By the Numbers”, you can see that 27 firms successfully hit the 70% reduction target! This is cause for celebration!
Hear rapid-fire presentations from larger signatory firms that have met or exceeded the 2030 targets. They share stories and lessons learned from achieving these phenomenal goals. From incorporating the right tools and the right time to translating “lessons learned” into continuous savings, hear firsthand the secrets to success for larger firms.

- Evaluate which tools, analyses, and research you should incorporate at key milestones to best improve the energy performance of your projects and create positive health outcomes for building occupants.
- Understand how to measure and track your progress and translate “lessons learned” into continuous energy and carbon reductions across your portfolio of work over years.
- Formulate a plan to map critical education, training, and skill-building to specific roles on your teams to help them deliver energy-efficient projects that promote occupant and environmental health
