This course explores digital trends in design and construction (such as BIM) and investigates the effects digital developments in the field have on project participants, project success and the public in general. Key topics include the use and exchange of digital data, the impact of digital data and BIM use on project communication and efficiency, and other issues related to the use and transmission of digital data.
Participants will be able to use the knowledge gained during this program to better understand AIA Contract Documents protocols and provisions that address issues related to digital practice and BIM.
Learning objectives
- Explore new issues and trends in digital practice and building information modeling; discover business and practice implications to be considered by owners, architects and contractors; and assess the effects of these trends on practitioners and the public in general.
- Understand roles and responsibilities in projects that utilize digital practice and building information modeling and recognize their effects on traditional roles.
- Analyze the potential liability associated with the transmission and use of digital data, including key issues associated with the appropriate transmission, maintenance, management and archiving of digital data and post project uses of digital data for facilities management and other Owner related interests.
- Discover the new AIA Contract Documents addressing digital practice and understand how they facilitate the responsible use and exchange of digital data, including BIM, on a project.
