Alberto Cayuela is the Associate Director of UBC’s Sustainability Initiative (USI) and the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS). He manages the process of integrating academic and operational sustainability and works closely with representatives from the Campus Sustainability, Teaching and Learning and Strategic Partnerships offices to achieve UBC’s sustainability goals. Alberto brings a wealth of experience in sustainable building and renewable energy projects garnered in the private sector, including at his last position as senior project manager with Stantec Consulting. During his 13-year tenure at Stantec, Alberto managed the planning, implementation, and delivery of complex capital projects and high-performance buildings. Alberto has a strong background in front-end project planning and project controls and significant expertise in project management best practices, project organization and governance, stakeholder management, and project performance tracking and reporting. He was the program manager of CIRS responsible for project planning, implementation, and delivery from the initial feasibility stage through post-commissioning and building operations.
