Deborah Gans is the principal of the New York–based architecture firm GANSstudio and an architecture Professor at Pratt Institute, New York. The studio has a body of work focused on extreme conditions in part as a way of understanding the emergent new normal. As a consequence of this work,they received a HUD COPC grant to work in New Orleans East for several years after Hurricane Katrina. Current projects include the planning for interim housing in New York , New Jersey and Connecticut for the Regional Catastrophic Planning Group and a resilient neighborhood design for Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. Deborah is co editor of Extreme Sites:Greening the Brownfield and a frequent contributor to journals such as PLACES and Boundaries on similar subjects.
