Pablo M. La Roche
Pablo La Roche is Sustainable Design Leader and Associate Vice President at CallisonRTKL and Professor of Architecture and Interim Director of the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona University. His practice, teaching and research have been dedicated to the design of buildings integrated with the environment. He has a PhD in Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles and more than 25 years of experience in professional practice, designing and implementing sustainable, low carbon strategies in projects worldwide. He has authored more than 130 technical papers in journals and conferences, including the second edition of his book “Carbon Neutral Architectural Design” published by CRC Press in July of 2017.
Dr La Roche has led or participated in EPA, AIA and California Energy Commission funded research projects. He is a licensed architect in Venezuela and Associate AIA and LEED BD+C accredited. He received a Fulbright Fellowship by the Department of State and the Chancellors Fellowship from UCLA and was selected for the exhibit “New Blood: Next Gen” in the A+D Architectural Museum in Los Angeles. He received the IMPACT Award from the USGBC, the EDUCATE Prize in Europe, and the NCARB Grand Prize for CPP. His students have also won multiple awards in design competitions and recently his 4th year architectural design studio was selected for the 2030 Curriculum Project as one of seven Innovative Courses in the 2016-2017 Academic Year. Dr La Roche has been a member of multiple competition jury panels and served as chair and technical reviewer of numerous conferences, recently chairing the 2016 Passive Low Energy Architecture Conference PLEA in Los Angeles. He was also president of the Society of Building Science Educators (SBSE) and Chair of the Solar Buildings division of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES).
