Vice president of facilities development and corporate real estate | John Muir Health
Michael Monaldo is the vice president of facilities development and corporate real estate at John Muir Health, serving the East San Francisco Bay Area. He is also integrally involved in the oversight and management of BayHealth (a UCSF/John Muir Health joint venture) and its outpatient development initiatives. In his current position, Mr. Monaldo’s responsibilities include the planning, management, and financial aspects of all new construction and renovation projects for John Muir Health, with a 10-year capital program exceeding $2 billion. Since joining John Muir Health, he has overseen the construction of two major patient care facilities: the Tom and Billie Long Patient Care Tower on the Walnut Creek campus and the Jean and Ken Hofmann Patient Care Tower on the Concord campus. In addition to these projects, his team has completed the construction of a 767-space parking structure, an ambulatory surgery center, a 144,000-square-foot outpatient center in Walnut Creek, and a 60,000-square-foot reference laboratory in Concord. Mr. Monaldo also oversees all real estate transactions for the health system and asset management of 900,000 square feet of leased space. He received his master’s degree in architecture from the University of Maryland. He is a licensed architect and has over 20 years of experience working on major health care projects. Prior to joining John Muir Health, Mr. Monaldo was the director of project development for Kaiser Permanente. Prior to Kaiser, he was the project director for Saint John’s Heath Center in Santa Monica, California, where he managed an eight-year phased replacement project that included a 475,000-square-foot hospital, central utility plant, and 474-space subterranean parking structure.
