Deborah A. Pierce
Architectural access, for both residential and public buildings, has been a special focus of Deborah’s work for three decades. As founding partner of Pierce Lamb Architects in Newton MA and national chair of the AIA Advisory Group for Small Project Practitioners, she raised awareness for Universal Design in private residences through the AIA’s Small Project Design Awards and National Convention seminars. Her book, The Accessible Home: Designing for All Ages and Abilities, published by Taunton Press in October 2012, changes the conversation about access from compliance to inclusion, and provides both the details as well as the inspiration for creating user-friendly environments in our homes and communities. As a result of her book, Deb's practice is now focused entirely on designing homes for people living with a wide variety of disabilities.
