Executive Vice President, Stantec, Canada
Stanis Smith leads Stantec’s Buildings Group, which comprises over 2,700 Architecture and Buildings Engineering staff worldwide, and is the Market Sector Leader for Stantec’s Airport projects. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, Stanis studied Architecture, completing his degree in 1978. In 1986, he moved to British Columbia, Canada, and joined Architectura, one of Canada's leading Architectural firms, becoming its CEO in 1998.
In 2003 Architectura was acquired by Stantec, and since then Stanis has led the charge to grow Stantec’s Buildings Group to its present stature as one of the largest in the world. Apart from providing leadership to the Buildings Group, Stanis has brought his vision and expertise to projects across North America—from educational projects for universities and colleges to visitor centers for NASA in Houston and Orlando. For the past twenty years he has specialized in the design of airport projects across North America and internationally, and is an acknowledged expert in the field. Stanis also has a performer's licentiate in music and is a frequent speaker at conferences.
