Philip Hamp has over thirty-five years’ experience as an architect focused on the restoration of historic architecture, museum installations and the design of new buildings. He received a B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1976 and a Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1980. After serving internships with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Historic American Buildings Survey, he joined the Office of John Vinci in 1980. Mr. Hamp partnered with John Vinci to form Vinci | Hamp Architects in 1995. His restoration work includes award - winning projects at the Illinois State Capitol, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Wingspread, re-installation of the permanent collection galleries at the Art Institute of Chicago, and other projects including the Henry Ford Museum, the University Club of Chicago and the Paine Art Center. Recent commissions include the renovation of the Illinois Governor’s Mansion, consulting for the Tribune Tower redevelopment and several private residences. Mr. Hamp has taught historic preservation at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is a past board member at Landmarks Illinois and has served on the Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council. He presently serves on the AIA’s Committee on Design and the Art Institute of Chicago’s Architecture and Design Society. He was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2006 and is a LEED accredited professional.
